Pediatric Acupuncture

Pediatric Acupuncture As A Treatment Option:

Pediatric Acupuncture is something many people will never consider as a treatment option for their children. Not because they do not believe it will work but because they think poking their child with pointy needles will not be acceptable at all or may even leave the child traumatized. In modern Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), however, paediatric acupuncture can be entirely pain-free! In my clinic I use 1.5 mm press tape needles that are safe to walk around (or play in my waiting room) with. These needles can be as effective as traditional needles and because they can be left inserted for longer, may even have a stronger effect in some cases. Magnet therapy (I use 0.5 cm silver or gold magnets) is another great pain-free and effective option I offer children and some adults. Skin-colored or transparent plasters allow patients to even leave the clinic with the magnets on, extending therapeutic effect time induced by the magnet’s polarity.

Even though children may not communicate their symptoms as well as adults, their ailments stem from similar physical and emotional imbalances targeted by TCM’s holistic approach. Whether by needles or magnets, acupuncture creates a reaction that effects our Qi, the flow of energy and nutrients through our body. In children this effect is frequently stronger and balance may be achieved faster than in adults. This makes pediatric acupuncture an excellent choice for those seeking a more holistic approach to chronic conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, asthma, atopic dermatitis, migraines or frequent upper respiratory infections.

If you are uncertain whether pediatric acupuncture is the right choice for your child, don’t hesitate to contact me. I will be happy to answer any questions about acupuncture in general or your child’s condition specifically.
